Prasoon & Sanchita Bikaner : An Eco Friendly Wedding with the Most Unique Hashtag- ButterChickenwithBhujiya

Seldom do we come across a wedding that is quite unlike the rest- Sanchita and Prasoon’s wedding was such. The vintage charm of Bikaner’s palace added to this eco-friendly wedding. And how can we possibly forget our favourite part- the unique and quirky hashtag? Curious about how they pulled off this incredible wedding? Read to know more!

About the Couple

“Prasoon and I both are software engineers and we met while working at Infosys. He was based out of Hyderabad and I was based out of Pune. After 2 years in the relationship, Prasoon went to study MBA in Canada and I moved to the development sector by joining a fellowship program. While Prasoon is a Management consultant with practical and business mindset; I am a civic tech enthusiast with a compassionate heart. We both balance and learn from each other as we are extremes of the same scale. Prasoon is calm and patient, and I am impulsive. I describe our relationship as puzzle pieces making a perfect picture together. We combine our imperfections in our day to day life and that’s how perfect my life is with him. As a zero-waste enthusiast and a professional working towards achieving UN sustainable development goals, my idea of the wedding was always being a responsible consumer and reduce the mammoth of wastage that is produced out of big fat Indian weddings. So my sister came up with the idea of Green Wedding for me and did the entire planning with the support of my parents and family.” says the bubbly bride, Sanchita.

The Wedding Festivities

Sanchita and Prasoon hosted a ‘green wedding’ where the theme was Let Love Grow. Her sister came up with this theme for two reasons- one because they wanted an eco-friendly wedding and two because distance never came in between their love. She even coined the hashtag- #ButterChickenwithBhujiya considering Prasoon’s love for butter chicken and Sanchita’s love for bhujiya!

The Mehendi Ceremony

The theme for the Mehendi was pastels. Sanchita’s sister Prakriti made all the signboards using seed paper & cardboard. Wedding cards were of recycled paper and seed paper with a personalized PS seal. Mehendi giveaways were seed balls for outstation guests and saplings for local guests. They packed the seed balls and saplings in cotton and jute cloth respectively. The fun element in Mehendi was a flash mob by Prasoon and his friends!

The Sangeet Ceremony

The theme of the sangeet was glitter and shimmer for girls and formal wear for men. The gifts for the groom’s family were all packed in a cotton cloth bags decorated in net instead of plastic. The food was served in bamboo disposable plates. The hashtag which was a part of the decor was made out of thick cardboard sheets instead of wood/plastic. 

The Haldi Ceremony

Describing the entire haldi ceremony in detail, the bride Sanchita saya, “We were not even a percent surprised when my sister came up with the idea of using “Nimbu Mirchi” for haldi background instead of regular genda garlands. We did plant lots of genda at our place a few months before the wedding to use as-is for the decor. The Nimbu Mirchi was later on distributed to the help and needy people. My haldi footwear was up-cycled kolhapuris by my sister. We decided to give handmade hathphool for ladies and a small pom-pom badge for men. The hathphool was made from unused bangles at home. In our custom we give out return gifts to our guests at haldi so there was this whole section along with haldi favours for gifts. We gifted our friends and cousins organic beauty products specially curated by “Lushveda” for the wedding without any plastic packaging and reusable boxes. For other family members, we bought locally sourced gota patti cloth piece and khadi kurtas, which were packed in up-cycled cloth bags stitched by my mom and further designed by my sister. The name tags and a sweet thank you message for all the gifts were handmade by the planner (my sister) herself. We also gifted the bridesmaids a leheriya saree made locally in Bikaner as a bridesmaid gift to wear on haldi.”

The Wedding

The grand wedding took place at Lallgarh Palace in Bikaner. Prasoon entered with lots of dancing baratis on dhol and music while Sanchita entered with her dad to the tune of “Laadki” in the background. “We decided that I will enter the jaimala stage and receive Prasoon. It was a quirky moment when I gave out my hand when he was getting up on stage. We had the exact jaimala that I dreamt of. Post jaimala we met the guests, followed by pooja and then pheras.”
